Film aspect writing

Two-shots were also incorporated. This occurred at the start of the film when Ardel gave Miss Purday the ring he saved for her. This showed us that the rest of the film will be based around some drama about Ardel proposing to his teacher. The purpose of this shot was to give us the idea that the film will be based on Miss Purday and Ardel. Matching with this aspect is the music played in the background. It worked well together due to the moment, the nice instrumental calm music puts us in a happy mood and makes us think its a special moment.

Close up shots were used effectively in the short film ‘The Crush’. For example, the director Michael Creagh, used the close-up shot of Ardel’s face after Miss Purdy was revealing her new engagement ring to Ardel and his mother. This showed the audience that Ardel was frustrated, jealous and disconcerted about Miss Purdy wearing a new engagement ring and not the one he gave her. The director did this to show the audience how hurt Adrel was when he saw Miss Purday’s new ring. There was a sense of betrayal in his eyes because she was supposed to marry him not the man she was engaged to. Coinciding with the shot was Ardel’s facial expressions, from excited and happy to sad and angry.

Various types of music were used further in the film. This was demonstrated when Ardel was walking merrily through the park after proposing to his teacher Miss Purdy. The cheery and exciting music displayed in the background shows us that Ardel is happy which made us feel weird but happy. The purpose of this was to tell us Ardel was happy in different ways. This worked well with his facial expressions and body language. He was walking with a smile on his face and his expressions were portraying a good feeling. This aspect can be contrasted to the same long shot later on in the film when Ardel was walking in the field but his expressions were different, he was more upset than happy.

A low angle was also included successfully in the short film. For example, a low angle was used when Ardel was glaring at the white cupboard in the bathroom where his father placed the gun. This showed me that Ardel was going to take the gun to the dual that he set with Miss Purdays Fiance Pierce. The director’s purpose for this was to foreshadow that something serious is going to happen including him using a gun. This reminds me of the low shot that was used when he was at his desk with his marriage planner and he was looking up at his cowboy poster putting the idea of a dual in his mind. Corresponding with this aspect was the use of the black filter around the frame/lens was used to create suspense.

Creative writing - Challenge or Risk

Nearly everyone would get that odd thought "Skydiving would be great to do". Well, that’s what I imagined at least for myself. But I’ll tell you now the feeling of regret changed immediately as soon as I finished almost peeing myself from shock. But at that moment as I opened my eyes. The sickness began. I sat there studying the scary plane. The extreme shaking didn’t help me at all though when I was untangling but then re-tangling myself up in the parachute bag and harnesses. After finally getting geared up it was time.

The adrenaline I felt was racing through me a million miles an hour. The feel of the wind gushing into me, making me nearly lose my balance, urging me to stumble backward. Appears like a million-meter drop was right under my toes, as I clutched to the side rails along the open door frame for my life, the hesitation overpowered me to stand as still as I could for as long as possible. Even the winds couldn't nudge me. But the words I dreaded with fear broke my statue-like body. Are you ready to drop?.

Adrenaline, distraught, anxiety. All blended into one body. Mine. Did you want us to count you down?. The next worst words I did not want to hear. But I couldn't bring myself to jump. Eventually, I couldn't stand there forever so I went for the next worst option. Getting pushed. As I stood at the opening of the plane, my heart was almost out of my chest, waiting for at least someone around me to count down or give some sort of warning. But just as I ask what was gonna happen I feel a powerful thud on my back and I go flying forward, my face waving its fat everywhere making me look like one of those droopy faced dogs out a window of a car.

I panic at the start to the point where I forgot what I needed to do, but as I struggle back to my thoughts, I pull myself together and try to straighten up so I don’t seem like I’ll go face-first into the ground.

40 minute persuasive writing

Topic- Movies are better than books.
Arguing both sides.

planning-
Movie-
Both sides shows better
Match less in story
Can be less engrossing
Enjoy acting

Book-
Imagination
Movies leave stuff out
More personal
Start and stop when you want

Not only books imagination

Writing
Your always getting that same question. Are movies better than books?. Sometimes its hard to choose depending on what your reading or watching. Throughout my writing I will argue both ways saying movies are equal to books. My points behind these are books improve your literacy and vocabulary with the different levels of reading you choose to read. Movies on the other hand has more of a visual effect which makes it more enjoyable, interesting and exciting to watch as there is different scenery taking part and catching our eye. Though reading books boosts your imagination which helps with reading and improves your creativity, though reading books come with the down side. Sore arms.

Reading books doesn't quite give us that visualising part, looking at stained tan paper for hours isn't all that interesting But it gives us the best visuals in our minds. Our imagination goes wild. With reading we can do some much more such as imagine the characters to relate back to us, change the way we imagine them, the way they look or speak. Its kinda hard doing that in movies as they are already set out they were made to be. Reading just gives that advantage that movies dont.

Not only

40 minute persuasive writing

Topic- Team sports are better than individual sports.
Arguing both

Planning;
Improves communication though causes problems for people who dont listen
Focus more on winning yourself instead of worrying about what others might do
Some

Writing; In this essay, I will argue both sides of the topic, which is Team sports is better than individual sports. My points behind my argument are communication issues in team sports, though it improves some communication in ways. Making new friends or meeting new people and my last point is focusing such as with what you need to do or what your plan is on how to win.

Team sports are all about communication. Communication is the main key to winning in sports whether its Football, Basket ball or even Tennis. All team sports need it. Though there are troubles with communication such as not planning before a game or talking to team players on the field to pass the ball or to spread out. In Individual games communication isn't really all that needed.

Additionally, team sports and individual sports are both best with meeting and making new friends and people. So its a win for both.

Furthermore, Individual sports is more to focus and centre yourself to one thing. So not having to worry about distractions such as other people,

In conclusion, both ways of playing are equally the best. Team sports helps with conclusion though also can go down hill if not communicating well. Individual sports helps centre your focus onto one thing with no distractions in your way. And in both team sports and individual sports you meet incredible people and make great friends.

Social Studies Essay

Introduction

Statement: Technology has caused a complete change in the way people experience the world and how
they live their lives.

Example of different periods: I will describe the technology that was used by the ancient Egyptians,
ancient Romans, and what we possess today in the 21st century.

Example of technology: I will discuss the technological advances such as writing, travel style and
architectural changes.

Relate to question: The examples I have listed will show some ways of how technology has changed
and how it is different from what technology we have and use today.

Paragraph 1

Topic Statement: It is easily noticed how our modern-day communications and the way we record
things is vastly different from the ancient Egyptians in almost every way.

Example: The differences with writing from over have been a big improvement from technology devices
having keyboards instead of pen and paper all the time. Even on the devices, they have extras including
font styles, colours and sizes.

Evidence: The discovery of hieroglyphic writing and alphabetical systems which the ancient Egyptians
created in early ages of 3000 BCE was a major development and huge impact on the way they
communicated and wrote. There were many more signs used by the Egyptians which number was
higher than the common alphabetical systems, over a thousand different hieroglyphics were in use but
later reduced to around 750 during the (2055-1650 BCE) middle kingdom. Hieroglyphic writing was
recorded on many objects which papyrus was one of them, a plant which was peeled into long strips
and then layered on top of each other then pressed and dried to form papyrus sheets, these were used
for many years and for many reasons.

40 minute persuasive writing

Topic- The South Island is better than the North Island.

Planning:
Presentable- interesting
roads- pot holes,
schools - Hornby
landscape
Earthquakes

Writing:
In this persuasive writing I will argue towards both sides, The North Island is equal with The South Island. The reasons being, The North Island are experiencing major Earthquake problems, more than what South Island. The South Island on the other hand has bad roads and damaged buildings, some are which from earthquake damage, which isn't all that attractive or welcoming to travellers from other places, North Island takes the lead with their amazing sky towers which give off a brilliant view, apart from the certain places in the South Island that are around which are worth seeing if you look hard enough. The last and most important reason I will discuss is Christchurch  having the best school in New Zealand, Hornby High School which I am proud to attend.

North Island is encountering a major impact of earthquakes the past year, which they are increasing rapidly due to the fault line travelling under New Zealand. Though South Island gets the most damage from earthquakes,

South Island are fairly known for their bad roads which doesn't give them a good look. The pot holes around New Zealand are chaotic,

In addition to that point, The South Island has the best school in New Zealand, Hornby High School. South Island is lucky to have such a great school

In conclusion, North Island and South Island are no better than each other, they both have their own  specialities and their own troubles which doesn't put any of them higher than the other. Earthquakes happening in North Island though their amazing tall sky scrapers takes your thought off the disasters. South Island isn't any better with their bad dangerous roads and damaged buildings which don't attract much travellers apart from the demolished cathedral in Christchurch and the Worlds Fastest Indian in Invercargill.

Volcano project - Sam and Liam

Our task in science is about researching and creating a volcano and blog about the steps. The questions and tasks we have to do are...

Our volcano research:
  1. Where is it? Western United States
  2. What is its name? Yellowstone Caldera (also known as Yellowstone Supervolcano
  3. Is it extinct? No
  4. Dormant or Active? Yes
  5. What type of volcano is it? The Yellowstone Supervolcano is a Caldera type meaning the volcano its self have collapsed inwards into itself due to lack of magma, making it a large volcanic crater.
  6. How are these types formed (Include diagram)? caldera is a volcanic feature formed by the collapse of a volcano into itself, making it a large, special form of volcanic crater. A caldera collapse is usually triggered by the emptying of the magma chamber beneath the volcano, as the result of a large volcanic eruption.

-(Yellowstone Supervolcano)

Next steps are to plan our model,
What are we going to make it out of? We will be making the outside of the volcano with flour and water.
How will you make it erupt?
What landscape will you paint it on? A red rock enviroment
Who will bring what materials? Liam will bring the bottle for the main structure of the volcano.
And the final step.........................................BUILDING TIME

Update:
So far we have constructed our volcano though we didnt get the time to paint but the next step is to make them erupt!
Here is a photo of our caldera volcano.

Science - Pumice

What is Pumice? A light and porous volcanic rock formed when gas-rich froth of glassy lava solidifies rapidly.

How does  it form from  volcanoes? When lava cools quickly in water the gas bubbles get trapped as the lava soldifies.

What are its properties? Composition- Very thin translucent bubble walls/ Density- Very light weight due to air bubbles/ Buoyancy- Since they are light weight they will usually float in water/ Abrasivity- They are abrasive which is why they are so good at removing dry skin off feet/ Color- Commonly pale in color ranging from white, cream, blue or grey to green, brown and black.

How is it similar to hokey pokey? When out of heat they both cool rapidly and harden very fast trapping air bubbles in the process.

Gymnastics - Physical Education

In Physical Education we are experimenting with gymnastics for 4 or so weeks. Our task was to record ourselves performing some sort of trick or layout on one of the factors such as the floor, mini-tramp, parallel bar, horizontal bar, beam and tramp. My video which I have not received yet was recorded on the floor with me performing a cartwheel with a half-turn finishing up with a handstand. At the end of the term, we are to repeat this and see how we have progressed throughout the weeks of improving.
What do i need to improve on? Most likely my half turn in the middle of my routine.

Souvlaki - Home Economics

The task: Today's assignment was to create souvlaki within the time we had. It was a very tough recipe to follow and assign jobs to my other teammates however we managed well.

The process:  Each person in my group was assigned a certain job which was on the recipe such as one person made the garnish (Which was me) and the other two in my group worked together to make the marinade for the beef. While cooking the beef the others prepped the rest of the garnish and cleaned the area.

Skills within the team: Everyone was productive though at some points I had to tell one of my teammates multiple times their job.

Feedback: Positive feedback once again from someone in my class student stating it was great and they loved it so I was thrilled to hear it.

Next steps for myself: Next steps would be to keep working on getting everything ready at the right time and not be behind the class.

Here are my images of the prepped garnish followed by the beef being marinated aswell as my souvlaki finihsed and made.

Pad Thai - Home Economics

Pad Thai

The task: The task today was to prep and cook Pad Thai within the time we have.

The process: The recipe had been written on,  giving us assigned tasks. I had the job of prepping the ingredients such as spring onion, bean sprouts and almonds for after the cooked outcome (I also cut the chicken into slightly thin stips). My other teammates had the role of getting the noodle rice in the pots to boiling point and marinating the chicken. I cooked the chicken for a while and we took turns with watching it as I peeled and crushed the almonds. We all participated with the sauce getting all the liquids. I cooked the chicken for a while, we took turns with watching it on the stove as I stripped and crushed the almonds.

Skills within the team: The team done well though we did have a bit of a problem as we misread the recipe and added ingredients to our chicken which was not what the instructions had said but we managed to fix it up as much as we could. Some teammates still need working on with not listening but we prepared and cooked this dish well.

Feedback: I received feedback from another group in my class and they mentioned it is much better than their own they had cooked so I was relieved to hear that.

Next steps for myself: Next steps would be watching my group more so we no mistakes are made, and making sure we had all the ingredients that we need at the start instead of forgetting some things.

40 Minute writing - Persuasive writing- History has no value in present day society.

History has no value in present day society.
Against

Pros:
Education
Experience
Help us be better people

Cons:
Influence

Introduction:History is apart of all of our lives. I disagree with the statement 'History has no value in present-day society'. following reasons behind these are: The history educates us on the past and what has been achieved or lost If history repeats itself we wouldn't be experienced or we wouldn't know how to overcome the situation at the time or fix it.

Paragraph 1: Without the education of history, we would be blind to dangerous circumstances that have happened in the past. With the knowledge, we would know how to solve the situation and with the new generations more intelligent we can resolve the problem with more high-level technology. For example, earthquakes that have been happening for more than 50 years, throughout the years we have constructed the buildings to make them more sturdy and earthquake safe.

Neolithic vs Paleolithic stone ages

Detailed adjectives, verbs and adverbs sentences

Exercise 1

From each set of words in brackets choose the one word or phrase which most effectively conveys
he heat of the scene being pictured:
Beneath the glaring sun the land was brown. Blades of grass, shrivelled by the fierce rays, clung to the
crumbling, scorched soil. Even to move was an effort. The slightest motion was enough to cause a
sweat, but even perspiration was forced away almost instantly by the merciless heat.

Exercise 2

Some words have been left out in the following sentences. From each group in brackets, choose
the word or phrase that most effectively suggests the idea of noise.
1 Thunder boomed off the mountains. The weeping of the wind as it blasted through the narrow valleys
was almost drowned out by the drumming of huge raindrops on the rocky ground.

Exercise 3

From each set of words in brackets choose the one word or phrase which most effectively conveys
the scene being pictured:
Bright lights radiate merrily through the evening darkness. The steady flickering of the larger lights
was reinforced by the sparkle of an array of grinning smaller ones chasing each other in a lively,
never-ending race. The hum of conversation, the crack of glasses, and the whiff of steaming food all
drifted enticingly across the still night air.

Exercise 4

Here is a short descriptive passage. From each group in brackets, choose the word or phrase that
most effectively fills each gap. Bear in mind the impression the writer is trying to give.
The face, in the brief instant when the lightning flashed was like some hideous carving. The forehead
was topped with a tangle of hair which gleamed in the light. The lower part of the face was masked
by a/an untidy cluster of wiry beard. The eyes, deep-set under thick brows, glittered evilly as they caught the light. Mark’s heart thrashed in fear at the sight. Lightning flickered again.

Pizza

Pizza

The task: The task today was to create a pizza in the time that we had (though our teacher got confused with the days so we were rushed).

The process: First we gathered all our topping ingredients and the dry ingredients for the dough. Then I diced the onions, cut the peppers into small squares and the mushrooms followed by pineapple. While I was doing that my other teammate was cutting the salami and ham into shreds. Then another teammate was busy kneading the dough and separating it. At that point, it was time to put the toppings of our choice onto our little pizza.

Skills within the team: My team worked well, best we've been so far. Most participated in the jobs and there was no attitude from anyone today which was good.

Feedback: I received feedback from another school student saying it was very good and the toppings were great.

Next steps for myself: The next steps would be to continue working on my behavior and getting everything organized and make sure everyone has a job to do.
